Sizing Up Trinity Debt Management

Image by Jen R v Get Your Ex Boyfriend Back ia Flickr

As you click “Search” to look for a debt management company online, an avalanche of debt relief and counselling companies and debt relief solutions will overwhelm you. It is scary to think that a portion of these piles of debt companies are fraudsters and rip-offs who are only there to bilk unsuspecting consumers of the little money that they have. Before signing up for the services of a debt management company, make sure to thoroughly assess its legitimacy and credibility. When choosing a debt management company, there are acid tests that can help determine whether it is legit or a scam. For this post, we apply the acid test to Trinity Debt

Management.

Some Trinity Debt Management Details

This non profit organization started providing credit counselling and debt consolidation and debt management services in 1992. Although its website did not specifically state the address of their head office, the BBB website reflect its address in Cincinnati Ohio. It also goes by the name Trinity Credit Counselling Inc. which has an address in Baltimore Maryland. Now let us take a look if it passes the test as a trustworthy debt relief agency.

Subjecting Trinity Debt Management To The Acid Test

BBB Membership. One of the tips you can find online when scouring for a legit debt relief agency is to check if it is a member of the Better Business Bureau. If it is, you can conveniently check with the bureau or through their website for any complaints filed against it and how many have been resolved. Unfortunately, Trinity is not a BBB member.

Other Accreditations. One website mentions that the agency is a member of the American Association of Debt Management Organizations, one of the huge associations for the industry where many licensed and legit credit counselling agencies are members of. However, the list of Ohio debt management agencies is not available in the AADMO website to confirm the accreditation of Trinity.

Training And Certification of Counsellors. Trinity counselors are certified by the Institute for Financial Counseling.

License. Trinity Credit Counselling Inc. located in Baltimore, Maryland has a License number 14-33. I have not found a way to verify this license online but the website of Trinity states that for any complaints or questions about the agency, Maryland residents can contact the Commissioner of Financial Regulation for the State of Maryland.

How Much Does Trinity Debt Management Charge? It is heartening to find out that unlike some debt relief companies, this agency does not collect any one-time set-up fee. The monthly fee they charge is decided upon by the state where the client resides. But the maximum monthly fee they charge is $50.

Is Trinity Associated With Certain Creditors? There is no mention online if the agency is backed by particular creditors. However, the creditors that they do not negotiate with are Credit One, Dell and First National Bank of Marin.

The information used to determine if Trinity Debt Management would be a great debt relief agency to deal with is insufficient. If you are interested to work with them, you can protect yourself by asking for a written contract and requesting them to put your debt management plan in writing.
